【Exhibition】The Art of Bamboo Weaving─Exhibition of Cultural Heritage Preservers

The exhibition invites bamboo craftsman Shiufeng Lin, Suying Tu, Chishiang Huang, and Shingze Liu. All four artists are bamboo weaving cultural heritage preservers from Nantou County and disciples of the late Tushan Huang, an important figure in traditional bamboo weaving crafts and a recipient of the title "Living National Treasure." Besides their creative endeavors, the artists are committed to passing down their skills without reservation. Therefore, the title "藝出同門" not only signifies the passing on of tradition and mentorship but also carries the hope and beauty of inheritance and the branching out of new leaves.
Shiufeng Lin began working at the Taiwan Provincial Handicraft Research Institute (now the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute) in 1975 and retired in 2018. During this time, she dedicated herself to the preservation, development, and training of bamboo weaving techniques. With over 40 years of experience in the field, she is not only skilled in traditional bamboo weaving but also contributes to its preservation through teaching, publishing, exhibitions, and international engagements.
Suying Tu started learning bamboo weaving at the age of 14 and has been teaching bamboo weaving for over 50 years. She currently serves as an associate professor-level professional technical staff in the Department of Cultural Heritage Conservation of our school, teaching bamboo weaving. Her works are not only artistic and practical but also ingenious in design.
Chishiang Huang, the son of Tushan Huang, learned bamboo weaving from his father from a young age and has continuously improved himself with a solid foundation in bamboo weaving. His works focus on practicality and are adept at showcasing everyday utensils.
Shingze Liu began learning traditional bamboo crafts after graduating from junior high school. He is not only proficient in traditional bamboo weaving techniques but also pays attention to details, proportions, and aesthetics. He further incorporates other materials and techniques such as baking and turning on a lathe to enhance the artistic and structural qualities of traditional bamboo weaving works.
The opening ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM on March 4th in the Art Muse of the Art Center. Art enthusiasts and the general public are invited to join us in celebrating this grand event!
